DO YOU PRACTICE BEING A “GOOD NEIGHBOR

Truly becoming part of a “neighborhood” is one of the benefits of renting a home.

You can be a GOOD NEIGHBOR by observing some of the following simple and sensible suggestions:

  • Keep your lawn mowed.
  • Maintain your property by keeping it clean of debris.
  • Park only in approved spaces, not on your lawn or in front of your neighbors’ home.
  • Use trash containers with tight fitting lids and participate in the City's recycling program, if available.
  • Put trash out after 5:00p.m. the evening before pick-up and remove containers soon after pick-up.
  • Do any vehicle repair in appropriate areas—not on residential property or in the street.
  • Keep the noise down—be considerate of your neighbors.
  • Do not place garage sale or party signs on tree banks and/or utility poles.
  • Trim tree branches and shrubbery so they do not obstruct pedestrian or vehicle traffic and sight lines.
  • Watch your neighbors’ home for illegal activity.
  • Offer to take in your neighbors’ mail when they are out of town.
  • Stop by and offer to help your neighbor with projects or just say hello.

THE IMPORTANCE OF RENTER’S INSURANCE

Disaster can strike anyone at anytime. As a renter, do you have insurance that will cover you in the event of an unfortunate occurrence?

Without renter’s insurance, you have no protection for your valuables if they are stolen or damaged by fire or other disasters. Approximately 54 percent of renters today have no insurance to protect their possessions. To understand why renter’s insurance is a wise investment, simply add up the total cost of everything you own. If you cannot afford to replace these items at a moment's notice, you should consider purchasing a renters insurance policy.

Renters insurance will cover most of your personal belongings against fire/smoke, lightning, vandalism, theft, explosions and other disasters, as well as additional living expenses if you are forced to move. Finally, it may provide liability coverage if someone is injured in your home. It may also include legal costs in the event you are sued for this injury.

Unlike other personal property policies, renters insurance is relatively inexpensive, depending on the type of coverage, amount of coverage, and where you live.

For more information, please contact your local insurance agent or check the yellow pages for additional listings. Not having insurance is not a chance you should take.
